Chiyomaru

Chiyomaru , nicknamed Chiyo , is a dog that Lassie helps.

Chiyomaru lived as a puppy on the street and was apparently abandoned. One stormy night, Masumi found it and by chance, Seinosuke Andō also happened to be there. These two people didn’t know each other, but finding Chiyomaru brought them together. They got married and started an Italian restaurant together. Chiyomaru became their pet and was very happy.

However, Seinosuke started dating another woman, a woman named Machiko . Seinosuke left all the work to his wife and eventually Masumi fell ill from exhaustion and passed away. Before she died, Masumi asked Chiyomaru to take care of Seinosuke. However, Seinosuke later married Machiko, but she didn’t like Chiyomaru and the dog didn’t like him.

One day Machiko found a piece of Masumi’s clothing and gave it to her dog Pamela to chew on. Chiyomaru was enraged by this and tackled the poodle, though not too violently. Machiko was enraged by the treatment of her dog and beat Chiyomaru half to death, stuffed him in a garbage bag and abandoned him in the forest many kilometers away from home. Chiyomaru was in such bad shape that he could do nothing but lie down for three days. He promised himself that he would never return to Seinosuke’s house.

Chiyomaru first appears in the story when he crosses the road, two weeks after his rejection. This results in an accident when 12 cars crash into each other.

Lassie sees what happened and leaves the scene with Chiyomaru. Chiyomaru tells Lassie that he didn’t understand what happened because he’s not used to living outside the home. Lassie brings Chiyomaru food and Chiyomaru tells the other about his past. Chiyomaru would like to continue the journey with Lassie, but Lassie thinks it is better for him to return to his owner.

Later, while walking, Chiyomaru and Lassie see Machiko and her secret lover, Yū-chan . The dogs head towards Chiyomaru’s home, but Shiba starts to feel bad and has to stop. Lassie goes to get Seinosuke, but in the meantime a man recognizes Chiyomaru as a lost dog and takes him with him. Chiyomaru escapes and is later found by Lassie.

Chiyomaru has been suspicious, but decides to return to his owner, as Masumi had asked him to take care of Seinosuke. Chiyomaru and Lassie visit Masumi’s grave, when Seinosuke unexpectedly shows up. Chiyomaru becomes uncertain again for a moment, but then happily runs to his owner.

Chiyomaru and Lassie lead Seinosuke to Machiko and Yū-chan, who are taking Seinosuke’s money. Yu-chan runs away and Seinosuke unexpectedly hands over his house and money to Machiko. Seinosuke moves into a new house with Chiyomaru and starts a new restaurant.

Seinosuke calls the Foundling Zoo to find Lassie’s owner, but Lassie leaves to find him herself. When the owner, Akutsu , comes to Seinosuke’s house, Chiyomaru runs away to find Lassie and finally reunite her with her owner. On the road, Chiyomaru is hit by a car, but continues to run. It finds Lassie and at the same time Seinosuke and Akutsu also arrive. Both Chiyomaru and Lassie can now live happily with their owners.
